Why Are Some MBS CHESS® and MBS Multiplayer Chess Boards® sets More Expensive?
Many factors determine the cost of a MBS Chess® Sets. The materials used to manufacture a set. For example, walnut is
more expensive than Rosewood, which in turn is more expensive that Mahogany. The more expensive the raw material, the
more expensive the sets will be.
The quality and detail of the machining of the pieces in high grade aluminium and applying industrial coating requires a
high level of skilled artistry by an artisan, in these evolutionary new modern sets.
MBS Chess Boards® and MBS Multiplayer Chess Boards® Quality grades of Handmade boards:
Grade A: Custom made to order boards which are made from the highest quality of available
timbers that are available in Australia at the time of order. Extreme care is taken during the manufacturing process to
select and assemble the best timber sections and limit manufacturing issues due to the complexity of the build of the
boards. All custom orders are discussed and quoted for prior to acceptance to produce.
Grade B: Pre-made boards ready for sale. Some boards may have slight manufacturing imperfections
with alignment and material quality. Some areas of the board may contain a filler to remove holes or gaps in the timber
work. This is a very common practise in hand made and finished wood products. This process is accepted so as to reduce
material wastage and is also better for the environment. This not considered a defect and does not deter from the
performance of the product.
The finish on the boards is bees wax polish to a matt lustre.
Beware of imitation boards and pieces at a fraction of the cost. There are many companies claiming to produce high end
chess sets made from premium woods, but at a fraction of the cost. They are almost always of very poor quality. These
manufacturers have no regard for U.S. and International copyright laws, registrations and trademarks, and will make
counterfeit copies. MBS CHESS® and MBS Multiplayer Chess Boards® are made to the highest standards, and are built to be
heirlooms.
